Why do you need surge protector?

A surge protector protects your electronics, appliances, or electrical equipment from possible voltage spikes that can damage them. Power surges are pretty rare but it will happen sooner or later which is why surge protector is a must specially if you own a lot of expensive tech that can get easily fried during power surges.

Surge protectors won't protect your device against lightning!

If there's a lighting stike near you surge protection will not be able to handle it. Which means that if there's a lightning storm unplug all your electronics, appliances, and electrical equipment if you don't want them to get fried.

Don't Overload Power Strips!

Never plug high capacity appliances like space heaters, dehumidifiers, microwaves, or pumps to your power strips or surge protectors it can cause overloading that can result to tripped breakers or even electrical fires due to overheating. Plug them directly into a wall outlet. Don't connect multiple power strips together to increase the number of outlets available.

There's also whole-house surge protector that you can install in your electrical main board to protect everything. Example:
